Belfast ME #36 - Sailing through Maine

 October 4,  2021

Maine was giving me a little indigestion, and it wasn't from the Lobster Roll at Red's Eats in Wiscasset ME. It was from trying to find a location to play pickleball that worked in our schedule. We were able to get on the road Sunday morning leaving Manchester NH and entering Maine. Unfortunately, the weather was drizzly, and nobody was playing at Pegasus Landing in Brunswick ME. My contact, John, conveyed that when the weather was smiling, a good group of players would be there in the mornings. Unfortunately, it wasn't smiling there on Sunday. Our preference was to play on Sunday, and that would have left Monday wide open for exploring Acadia National Park.

At this point a Wildberry Scone, from nearby Mae's Cafe & Bakery in Bath was the prescription for consolation.

The remainder of the afternoon was spent at Pemaquid Lighthouse Park before heading to Waldoboro ME where we stayed in a cabin for the night at Moody's Motel & Cabins.  While the temperatures were cool and the sky was overcast, we enjoyed our time at Pemaquid and were even able to go to the top of the lighthouse. When leaving, we chose to take an alternate route to Waldoboro that took us along some of the shoreline giving us new vistas to enjoy.

The next morning we headed to Belfast City Park in Belfast ME  in hopes there would be players.

When we arrived, Larry was sweeping some of the previous day's rain off the sides of the courts. He assured us players would be arriving soon. Before long Dan arrived and we had our first game. Their skill level was comparable to ours and we enjoyed a challenging game.

By the time we finished our first game, others had arrived and we now had a mixed doubles game with Larry and Jennifer. This was another good game in which they made us work for every point.

Our final game was against Jennifer and Jennifer. We always enjoy meeting and playing with others. The 4 dedicated courts here were in great shape and the location was superb with the ocean just over our shoulders and down the hill. The players in Belfast are hard core. They played outside on these courts all winter long last year, clearing them off occasionally because of snow. The players were a pleasure to meet. Wish we had more time to play with them. If we are ever back in the area, we will head to the courts and play a few games .
